Local landmarks
One of Cabo San Lucas’s most fabulous natural features is the 200-foot tall granite landmark known as El Arco. This magnificent pillar of natural stone is more than just a sightseeing attraction; it also has a rich local history. In centuries past, infamous pirate ships would hide in the shadows of El Arco and descend on unsuspecting merchant vessels, seizing their booty. Nowadays, you can visit the area by boat to see the landmark itself as well as marine life like coral and tropical fish!
All inclusive resorts like Breathless Cabo San Lucas, Grand Velas Los Cabos, and Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort offer guests the opportunity to book an excursion that will take them to El Arco. Pricing varies based on your resort.
The amazing beaches
You may have heard of Cabo San Lucas’s most famous beach, Playa del Amor, aka Lover’s Beach. This small stretch of white surf and pristine sand can be found next to El Arco in between beautiful rock formations. It’s best accessed by water taxi and makes for a great spot to sunbathe and snorkel through clear-blue waters. Since it’s situated on the Sea of Cortes, the water is calmer and safe for swimming (note: the Pacific Side, also known as Divorce Beach, has a rough current that’s too dangerous to swim in).
With its secluded location, there aren’t any restaurants in the area. If you plan on spending a few hours at Lover’s Beach, bring some snacks or even a lunch!
Another worthwhile beach spot is Chileno Beach. This laid-back stretch of sand is ideal for sunbathing and relaxing. Since the water here is generally shallow and calm, you’ll also be able to go for a swim or see some colorful sea life while snorkeling.
All inclusive resorts such as Marina Fiesta Resort & Spa, Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Golf & Spa Resort, and Villa del Arco Beach Resort & Spa are less than three miles away from Chileno Beach. It’s open to the public and can be accessed by bus or car. Parking is free and there are also showers and bathrooms for your convenience. Similar to Lover’s Beach, you’ll want to pack water and food if you hope to enjoy a full beach day!
Town square
Visit Cabo’s town square and you’ll come across the area’s main church, Iglesia de San Lucas (Church of Saint Luke). This old relic was constructed in 1730 and offers a look at the authentic architecture of the era. It’s an easy walk from the marina and travelers are even welcome to attend a Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon mass.
Once you’ve taken in the majestic Iglesia, you’ll be able to enjoy relaxed shopping and dining opportunities in the quiet market center. This is a fantastic place to support local artisans and pick up souvenirs for friends and family back home!
