Destination Spotlight: Montego Bay or “MoBay”
About Montego Bay
Montego Bay is the second largest city in Jamaica and a popular tourist destination filled with restaurants, hotels, and duty free shopping. It’s hard to believe now, but before Montego Bay was a resort town, it was a sugarcane port. Much of this transformation took place after the United States Air Force built a nearby strip in the 1950’s during WWII. In 1980, Montego Bay was proclaimed as a city and modernizations quickly took place transforming this locale into one of Jamaica’s top getaways. Today, resorts occupy the land where sugarcane plantations once existed with some of the original buildings and mill-works still standing.
